Paul - Cool beans! I love it when hacks like that work out. By the way, I'm really tempted by Screen Flow now. I just downloaded the demo to check it out.

Chris - Thanks for the comment and the link. I've got ShowMeDo bookmarked now.

Great screencast! Just an FYI, ShowMeDo.com has a couple of videos on screencasting on a variety of operating systems: http://showmedo.com/videos/screencasting

That's a great idea - I hadn't thought of it, and I didn't think it'd work 'cause I figured the recording application would just zoom too, but i just tried a quickie with iShowU and it did work - cool, and thanks!

Thanks for the kind words, Paul. I've been wanting to do something like this for a while, so your comments are definitely encouraging.

Your comment about magnifying the screen made me think: I'll bet I could use OS X's built-in screen zoom function (via Universal Access) to do that on the fly. Or, maybe I'll break down and get ScreenFlow if I keep doing enough of these.

I hadn't run across Screen Mimic. I'm definitely going to give the demo a try. Thanks again!

Me again- went back to check on some other software to see what else might allow magnification, and couldn't find anything, but did notice that Screen Mimic allows you to save directly to FLV, which might allow you to cut out your VisualHub step... http://www.polarian.com/products/ScreenMimic.php

Hey, really appreciate the time you took to detail your process. I thought you did a great job, and I learned a few things. Normally I shoot for 5 minutes or less, but you were telling a good story with good information so I didn't get bored at all with the length. You've picked up a new subscriber :-) I was going to suggest you could drop the fps rate down to around 15, but I see you're already going to try that next time. Only other suggestion would be to try and find some software that would allow you to magnify some parts of the screen when you wanted to show more detail. I know the new ScreenFlow program will do that (http://www.varasoftware.com/products/screenflow/), but it's a little steep at $99. Thanks again!
